Cristiano Ronaldo has been declared the finest footballer Piers Morgan has ever seen, with Lionel Messi coming in third.

On Saturday, Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur to keep his side's prospects of finishing in the top four alive. Despite a shaky start to 2022, the 37-year-performance old's demonstrated that he remains one of the top players in the world. Morgan is a personal friend of Ronaldo's, having previously interviewed him and written a column for The Sun praising him.

Morgan, a broadcaster, named the top 10 players of all time, with Ronaldo at the top. He chose Diego Maradona ahead of Lionel Messi, who is having a difficult debut season with Paris Saint-Germain. Take a look at the full list after the break:

10.Paolo Maldini

9.Zinedine Zidane

8.Thierry Henry

7.Pele

6.George Best.

5.Ronaldo Nazario

4.Ronaldinho

3.Lionel Messi

2.Diego Maradona

1.Cristiano Ronaldo

The top five include Brazilian legends Ronaldinho and Ronaldo Nazario, who helped their country win the World Cup. Ronaldo won it twice, in 1994 and 2002, and Ronaldinho was a member of the 2002 squad that traveled to South Korea and Japan.

George Best and Pele are ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, while Arsenal icon Thierry Henry is ranked eighth.

Morgan is a die-hard Arsenal supporter who frequently tweets about his team.

The top ten is rounded off by Zinedine Zidane and Paolo Maldini, with the latter being the only defender to make the cut. Following his exploits during the weekend, Morgan spoke with Ronaldo and asked him to summarize why he is the "GOAT" in a few simple terms. The 56-year-retort old's is classic Ronaldo.

I texted him today and asked him to sum up why he's the GOAT in one word "Morgan stated.

He replied, "I need three words." "I'm more than unique; I'm 'The Only One.'" He followed up with two laughing emojis. Out of my phone, I could almost hear him giggling — and winking. "

In midweek, Ronaldo will be eager to turn on the style once more.

United have been knocked out by Atletico Madrid following a 1:0 defeat in the last 16 of the Champions League at the Old Trafford.
