On Tuesday, ATLETICO MADRID defeated Manchester United in the Champions League. Diego Simeone has made a subtle dig at Manchester United after his Atletico Madrid side beat them 2-1 on aggregate on Wednesday night.

From left-back, a stooping header Just before half-time, Renan Lodi handed Spain the lead, quieting the Old Trafford fans and giving the Red Devils a mountain to climb. In the second half, Ralf Rangnick's side did not create many chances, with the best falling to in-form teenager Jadon Sancho.

However, his deft strike sailed over the bar and into the Stretford End, leaving United without a goal. The 20-time Premier League winners will finish the season without a trophy after their 1-0 defeat on the night.

Manchester City must gain just eight points out of a possible 27 to make it mathematically impossible for United to win the title, which is incredible given the talent on the Old Trafford surface. Simeone has slammed the club on the topic, referring to them as a group of "great individuals" rather than a "great side."

"There were a lot of people trying to make sure everything went smoothly," says the narrator "When questioned about his team's victory, Simeone told Marca. "There were a lot of individuals involved in getting us out of that strange situation we were in a month and a half ago when we switched after Osasuna.

Above all, seeing the team's worth when they work together delights me.

"We've been competitive, not afraid to play on the back foot, and we knew what to do when we came out against a team with excellent talent." The offside goal demonstrated to us that we were capable of injuring our opponent. The goal gave us the lead, and the second half featured some of the best collective work I've seen this season, which makes me happy."

United has not won a trophy since 2017, marking the end of a five-year run of failure at any level.

Rangnick's contract expires in the summer, therefore a new manager will be appointed before he moves into a technical post in the boardroom. The two frontrunners for the job are Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag.

However, it is unclear whether they would be permitted to leave their positions at PSG and Ajax, the latter of which was also knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday by Benfica. Following the international break, United will face Leicester in April.
