Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has been rated as one of the finest in the world at his position by Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets.
On Thursday, the Catalan team is in Europa League play, but all eyes are on Sunday's El Clasico match against Real Madrid, and Busquets was inevitably asked about both the weekend and midweek games during his news conference on Tuesday.
"If [Casemiro] isn't the best, he's certainly one of the best. Just watch his games, look at his record, and see what he's accomplished "Busquets expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.
"People focus on goals, shots, and assists in this position, therefore we are forgotten." We have a less visible but crucial job of being in the middle of the team, in charge of everything.
"He's someone I admire." All great players appeal to me. Real Madrid has a lot, but I wouldn't take any of them; I'd rather stick with my teammates, with whom I'll be playing and living. However, as a football fan, I can appreciate other players and teams' efforts."
Los Blancos won the last meeting between the two sides, though it took extra time in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final in Riyadh in January to separate them. Busquets believes that the Blaugrana are in a stronger position this season, having had more time to work with Xavi, as evidenced by their improved league position. "It's possible that the Supercopa arrived a little early for us," Busquets stated. We had injured players, Ferran [Torres] had just come, and Aubamayang was unavailable. "I believe we've improved as a team, and I'm sure Madrid will be on a high after winning a fantastic knockout tie [against PSG]." It'll be interesting.
Xavi, according to the midfielder, has already altered a lot and the players are progressively adopting his ideas.
"Everything is unique. "A new coach came in and made numerous alterations to his concept, which was the one we had years ago," Busquets explained.
"For those of us who were here at the time, it's been fantastic, and the newer members are catching on."
We're a more complete team now, and we do a lot of things well. As a result, we're a better unit. We obviously have a long way to go, but we're on the right track."
