As much as we enjoy watching the UEFA Champions League every season, the matchups this week were particularly entertaining, and as a result, we intend to bring you the squad of the week as usual.
Atlético Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak
Oblak, a Slovenian goalkeeper, has been named to this week's team after being Manchester United's nightmare on Tuesday. He was Atletico Madrid's switch as they won 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to five spectacular saves, three of which came outside the area, four high claims, and a clean sheet.
Center-back Pau Torres (Villarreal)
At the heart of Villarreal's backline, the super classy rumble defensive approach was well worth it. Torres came up with six clearances, three tackles, and assisted to finish what his teammate Gerard Moreno started with a magnificent goal before Arnaut Danjuma made it three goals past the Old Ladies.
Fullback Alejandro Grimaldo (Benfica)
Grimaldo's touchdown on the fullbacks was spectacular. One of the things that makes the Spaniard irreplaceable is his unequaled forward threat, recoveries, passing, and consistency. He had the solitary assist on the night, along with three important passes, six clearances, an 88.2 percent clearance rate, and a clean sheet, and he effectively oversaw his team's victory over Ajax. He was incredible.
Fullback Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)
After Christian Pulisic equalized with an overlapping superb finish off Mason Mount's shot cross pass on the right flank, the Blues Captain made his side worthwhile. It was all worth the effort, as the Blues beat Lille 2-1 today.
Center-back Jan Vertonghen (Benfica)
Against Ajax, the former Tottenham Hotspur player was practically one of the most astute players. With 10-clearances, interceptions, tackles, and, most importantly, a clean sheet, he advanced to the quarterfinals.
Center-midfielder Dani Parejo (Villarreal)
Dani Parejo may not have received much attention today against Juventus, but he was a key player in this week's Champions League matches. In Villarreal, he was deafeningly quiet, but quick and astute enough to record three vital passes and 87.3 percent accuracy.
Right-midfielder Juan Cuadrado (Juventus)
The Colombian international was his team's best player today at the Allianz Stadium, but he was unable to help his club advance to the next round. His creativity and passing on the right wing were outstanding, with five important passes, two fouls, 91.4 percent accurate passes, and some goal attempts.
Atlético Madrid's Renan Lodi is a left-midfielder.
Renan Lodi of Atlético Madrid is paired with Cuadrado on the left flank. He had touches, tackles, interceptions, and, most importantly, a clean sheet against Manchester United.
Ajax's Edson Alvarez is a center-midfielder.
Due to Ajax's loss to Benfica on Tuesday night, the 24-year-old Mexican may not be the center of attention, but there's no denying his impact on the pitch, with 90.2 percent accurate passes, five tackles, and some attempted shoots.
Darwin Nunez (Benfica) is a center-forward for the Portuguese club.
Darwin Nunez, who joined Benfica a year and a half ago, was the difference-maker on Tuesday night, as his single goal helped Benfica advance to the next round over Ajax.
Support-striker Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid)
On a night when Atlético Madrid needed their stars to shine, the Frenchman's attacking talents and a lovely assist for teammate Lodi were superb.
