As the deadline for offers for the club approaches, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel appears to have identified another option to lead the line for him other than Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea's decision day has arrived, with the deadline for bids to be filed set by the US bank handling the club's sale to Roman Abramovich approaching.

It means that after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government, the club's successor owner might be unveiled within days. But, with the most important choice in the club's history looming, it's unclear who that will be.

It comes after the club received a nice £9 million windfall that will be unaffected by the current owner's fines. And it appears that the club has found the ideal substitute for Romelu Lukaku to lead the line - and he's already on the books.

US bankers Raine are set to select a preferred bidder for Chelsea Football Club as their Friday deadline for bids approaches.

Romelu Lukaku has struggled to make an impact on his return to Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku has struggled to make an impact since his return to Chelsea.

The race to become the next owner of the Stamford Bridge club is expected to be fierce, with British businessman Nick Candy, US sports owners from the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Jets, as well as public declarations from billionaires from Turkey, Ghana, and Saudi Arabia, all in the running. The selecting process is expected to last into next week, and the decision will not be easy.

Mirror Football has now provided a detailed explanation of the procedure.

The £9 million windfall for the club

Chelsea has received a £9 million boost that will not be hampered by the sanctions levied against owner Roman Abramovich.

With a 2-1 win over Lille on Wednesday night, Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta helped the Blues forget about their off-field issues and propel their team into the Champions League quarter-finals. And as a result of those goals, the team is set to receive £8.9 million in prize money from UEFA.

And it could represent a lifeline for the club in its current predicament.

Lukaku's successor has been found.

Chelsea believe to have discovered an ideal front-line replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku's return to Stamford Bridge has not been easy, with the striker admitting he was unhappy at the club towards the end of last season as he struggled for form on the pitch. As a result, Thomas Tuchel has looked inside his squad for alternate front-line options, and Kai Havertz has proven to be more than capable.

Sport analyst Rio Ferdinand compared the German to his former teammate Robin van Persie after his performance against Lille.
