"I know what occurred," Anthony Martial says of Cristiano Ronaldo's encounter.

Rumors of locker room strife reached a fever pitch after Ronaldo decided to sit out the Manchester City encounter.

Manchester United still has a chance to finish in the top four.

Manchester United's season has been difficult to say the least, and Anthony Martial has opted to speak out about the team's apparent locker room issues.

Martial was asked about Cristiano Ronaldo in an interview with Diario AS in Spain, and he promptly refuted the notion that he was a behind-the-scenes nuisance.

"Cristiano [Ronaldo] is a consummate professional, arguably the best in the game's history. He is adored by all. There are several things that are falsely reported in the media. "I was in the dressing room, and I know what occurred," the Sevilla winger on loan claimed.

Martial found himself on a different squad near the close of the January transfer window as he sought consistent playing time elsewhere, and Manchester United gladly complied by agreeing to terms on a loan deal with the Spanish La Liga side.

Tensions in the Red Devils' locker room, particularly between Ronaldo and team captain Harry Maguire, reportedly increased just before their match against Manchester City earlier this month.

After informing the team that he would miss the match owing to a hip flexor ailment, Ronaldo decided to return home to Portugal, according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic.

The Red Devils' apparent aggravation with the Portuguese superstar stemmed from the fact that he was not in the stands to at least support them after missing the game due to injury.

"Given the importance of the match, sources suggest the travel caught United's dressing room off guard. Injured players are not required to attend games, but [Cristiano] Ronaldo's teammates believe that his presence at the stadium, given his aura and contributions this season, would have been useful," Whitwell wrote.

Manchester United's season has taken a turn for the worse after an Atletico Madrid victory in the second leg match at Old Trafford knocked them out of the UEFA Champions League.

With this new development, the club and its supporters' sole chance is to finish in the top four of the English Premier League, as they have been eliminated from the three other tournaments in which they could have won a trophy.

Manchester United is just one point out of the top four, with Arsenal in fourth place with 51 points, 20 points behind Manchester City in first place with 70 points.

With the way the Red Devils have been playing this season, a Premier League title finish would be nothing short of miraculous, and oddsmakers are well aware of this.

Manchester United will have a few weeks to prepare for Leicester City's return to Old Trafford in the hopes of finishing the season on a high note.
