Darren Bent, a former England striker, says Manchester United should allow Cristiano Ronaldo and five other players leave in the summer in order to rebuild the team.
Manchester United should sell six players in the summer, according to the 38-year-old, if they want their next manager to lead them to victory.
Apart from Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Fred, Edinson Cavani, and Anthony Martial should all be sold, according to Bent's advice.
He believes that players like David de Gea and Raphael Varane should remain with the Red Devils.
According to Bent, who spoke to talkSPORT,
‘’[David] De Gea and [Raphael] Varane are the ones you keep." I believe you require a new right-back. I don't think [McTominay] is up to the task, but he's a member of your team. Building-wise? Nope. I believe Fred is a strange guy because, in the last several weeks, he's been the one who's gone, 'You know what? 'I'm up for it.'
"However, if you're attempting to construct a successful team from the ground up, he might have to go."
When it comes to attacking players, the 38-year-old believes United should keep Jadon Sancho but trade both Ronaldo and Cavani. Marcus Rashford, on the other hand, he believes should be kept if the next manager likes him. Despite his dismal form, he believes Rashford is still young enough to turn things around.
"You keep [Jadon] Sancho," Bent said. Ronaldo has to leave. Cavani has to leave. [Martial] must leave. If the incoming manager likes [Marcus] Rashford, there's something there. You keep him because he's young if he can get the best out of him."
Paul Pogba's contract at Old Trafford expires this summer, according to Bent, thus he is already on his way out. He came at this conclusion: "[Pogba] will leave anyway because he is on a free transfer at the conclusion of the season." If Manchester United has any aspirations, [he] should leave. I adore Pogba as a player, but Manchester United supporters are tired of hearing, "We're waiting for that consistency." As a result, he'd have to leave."
