As Roman Abramovich walks away, Chelsea's probable new owner, Sir Martin Broughton, has made a commitment to the club's fans.
Broughton stated that he would ensure Chelsea's dominance at the top of European football is maintained by putting fans first, and that the West London club will never confront a crisis again.
After Abramovich was sanctioned in early March, the former British Airways chairman is one of the two top contenders, alongside British property mogul Candy, to take over Chelsea.
Broughton has made his promises to Chelsea fans ahead of a potential takeover, with bids on the club closing at 9 p.m. on Friday.
According to the Daily Mail, Broughton's objectives include "creating a team that will assure the future success and financial stability of a club I have supported for more than 60 years."
"The plan will ensure that the club is never reliant on a single individual or sovereign wealth fund again, guaranteeing that the club never suffers another crisis."
"With finances easily available for the instant takeover of the club and quick investment in the team, facilities, and commercial potential, we will secure a prompt purchase and easy transfer."
"I feel I am the best candidate to lead Chelsea Football Club as we embark on this new chapter."
"Throughout my career, I've had a track record of success in boardrooms, and I've done this before." I am still the only person to have successfully engineered a change of ownership at a big football club in a similar situation, which I did 12 years ago at Liverpool.
"But, most importantly, as a lifetime Chelsea supporter, I am dedicated to ensure that the club maintains its preeminent place at the top of European football and that fans are prioritized."
Meanwhile, Broughton served as chairman of Liverpool in 2010 to manage the club's sale to current owners, the Fenway Sports Group, who have led the club to further success.
