Manchester City appear to be on track to defeat Real Madrid and Barcelona in the race for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.
According to reports, the 21-year-old is likely to make a decision about his future in the coming weeks, with his £63 million release clause set to expire on April 30.
Haaland is expected to join Manchester City. According to Bild, if no contract is reached by May 1, Haaland's fee will skyrocket. According to the German tabloid, a move to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City is 'imminent,' and the club will meet his release clause. In a recent TV appearance with Amazon Prime, Dortmund adviser Matthias Sammer revealed that the Norwegian international is set to join the Sky Blues in the Premier League. Sammer suggested that Haaland will work with Guardiola and may have hinted that the trade is practically a done deal. After declaring he hadn't heard anything fresh about the deal possibly being completed, he eventually backtracked. "If it comes to that, I'm extremely curious to see how the Guardiola-Haaland combination will work," says co-host Mario Gomez to Sammer.
"They'll both profit from each other," said the Dortmund legend in response. Because Pep, of course – I had three years with him – has a preconceived notion. Without a doubt, I can see myself dealing with a center-forward. But he'll have to pick up some tips from the center-back."
When asked if a deal had already been made for Haaland to join City, Sammer said no.
"I'm not sure," says the speaker. This match (Manchester United vs. Atletico Madrid) had my entire attention."
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona were interested in Haaland.
Kane was a target for Guardiola in the past.
"I haven't received any communication today, yesterday, or the day before yesterday. City, I'm sure, is on his tail. I felt whiplash as a result of the numbers. I couldn't stay awake much longer. I was lifted up by my wife once more. As a result, yes."
Over the last several weeks, Guardiola's team has emerged as the frontrunners for Haaland, beating out both Barcelona and Real Madrid.
City are in desperate need of a traditional striker after missing out on Harry Kane last summer, and Haaland is the guy for the job.
