The exact cause of vaginismus is not known but usually, doctors accrue it to childhood trauma, social view on the subject and diseases such as thrush. Women who develop dyspareunia may have an underlying condition which may be an STI.
When a woman develops this condition, she must see a doctor for a correction. Sometimes, there are penetrative therapies meant to acquaint the woman with penetration. This is meant to make the woman familiar with penetration so that the muscles will not contract during sex.
Some women too may need surgery to correct this condition. In case the disease is caused by an STI, there is the need to treat it immediately. The conditions may escalate and cause infertility.
Do not use drugs to cover pain experienced sex. Rather treat the underlying condition.
