Sergio Reguilon, a former Real Madrid left-back, is allegedly interested in joining Barcelona this summer. This season, the Tottenham Hotspur star has been in and out of the starting lineup, and his future at the club is said to be in doubt.
Reguilon's representative has reportedly alerted Barcelona of his client's wish to join them, according to Gerard Romero. This season, the left-back has grown dissatisfied with Antonio Conte's lack of game time.
Reguilon was a member of Real Madrid's development system before making his senior debut in 2018-19. In the summer of 2019, he moved to Sevilla on a one-year loan. He became into one of La Liga's most promising young players there. Reguilon's performance drew the interest of many prominent European clubs, and he helped them win the Europa League.
In 2020, Tottenham paid £30 million to sign the 25-year-old from Real Madrid. However, he had a hit-or-miss debut season in the Premier League, with critics praising him for his defensive steadiness and consistency.
Reguilon was Tottenham's first-choice left-back when the season began in 2021-22. Conte, on the other hand, prefers Ryan Sessegnon to Reguilon, forcing the former Real Madrid player to ponder leaving.
Meanwhile, Barcelona is on the lookout for a long-term successor for Jordi Alba, the club's veteran left-back. He's played in over 410 games for his country, winning five La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey titles, and a UEFA Champions League triumph.
The 32-year-old is nearing the end of his career, but there is no one else in the squad to challenge him. Reguilon may be signed by the Blaugrana this summer.
As part of a trade deal, Tottenham Hotspur may offer former Serge Reguilon to Barcelona.
Barcelona's financial problems may make pursuing Reguilon more difficult. Tottenham could offer a player swap to the Spanish club, according to Diario Sport.
Clement Lenglet and Memphis Depay are said to be targets for the Spurs. Conte is concerned about the club's defensive play. In 28 league games, Spurs have given up 35 goals. As a result, the Italian is looking to add to Tottenham's defensive ranks this summer.
In recent years, Tottenham has relied heavily on Harry Kane's goal-scoring ability. This season, Kane has 22 goals in 40 appearances. Conte's team, on the other hand, is short on cover and competition for the England international. So, in return for Memphis Depay, they may offer Reguillon to the Blaugrana.
In 28 appearances for Xavi's side this season, Depay has ten goals and two assists. However, since the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer from Arsenal in January, he has fallen down the pecking order.
