All of the government's 16 major programs, including the free senior high school (SHS) program, are up for review, according to Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah stated that the president wants the programs to be safeguarded and completely implemented so that they can have a positive impact on the lives of all Ghanaians.

"All 16 flagship programs are being evaluated." The President has commanded that the flagship programs be safeguarded and properly implemented in order to maximize their impact.

"However, he wants it done within the parameters of item #2, which is the fiscal framework we're dealing with." If we need to rescope a flagship program based on the caps we're dealing with, we'll do it and see how much we can do," he told Citi FM in Accra on Monday, March 21.

Some have asked for a re-evaluation of the free SHS program.

Professor Stephen Adei, a former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), stated that the government should omit Category A or best-performing SHSs from the Free Senior High School program as part of a review of the free secondary school policy.

"We'll have to take another look at it." "I believe there are some schools that should be autonomous and fee-paying so that people will attend them, but we should also ensure that there are good community schools for everyone else," he told Joy News.

"Since only a small percentage of the impoverished visit Achimota, let the wealthy go and pay." Use the Achimota monies to build excellent schools in each district so that students can attend without having to travel."

In 2018, Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta proposed a reform of the program to encourage parents who can afford to pay the fees to do so.

"True, it's possible that we'll have to change the way we administer it." He told journalists, "I can't take my child to Achimota or Odorgono and leave him or her there and drive away without paying for anything while I can pay for ten people."

In 2017, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo implemented the Free Senior High School Policy, which he promised during his campaign.

"Today, we open the doors of opportunity and hope to our children and youth... "We have a fundamental duty to our children and future generations to ensure that their right to education is protected, whatever of their circumstances," the President told an exuberant throng at the West Africa Senior High School in Adenta.

"I want every Ghanaian youngster to attend secondary school not merely for what they will learn in the classroom, but also for the life experiences they will obtain," he continued. I want them to look in the mirror every morning and know that after they finish their education, they can do anything they set their minds to.

"I want students to feel confident that what they're learning is relevant to today's and tomorrow's needs." I want every Ghanaian youngster to know that if they work hard enough, they can achieve the same success as everyone else in the world. And I want parents to be proud of their children as they watch them grow into self-assured adults," stated the President.
