Ghanaians haven't stopped talking since KNUST experts verified that their favorite Fufu and fish soup is cancer-causing. It's not just Fufu.
Chicken, burnt or scorched rice, and fried rice were also mentioned as potential cancer causes.
This was discovered after researchers from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology took random samples of Fufu, rice and stew, chicken, and fried rice from ordinary street sellers for research purposes.
"We discovered the cancer-causing ingredient in the soup in the fufu." Smoked salmon was employed in the soup's preparation. A fish becomes pyrenised when it is smoked, charred, or burned.
"This is due to the fish coming into touch with metal that contains Benzo(a) pyrene, a carcinogen." In a documentary, one of the researchers told Joynews. She has this to say about how fried rice causes cancer:
"Continuous stirring of rice in a pan before to frying contaminates it with metallic Benzo(a)pyrene. The laddle used to stir fried rice is sometimes made of metal." The researcher went on to say.

Ghanaians reacted to the news, as I mentioned in my prologue.
"While others are working on nuclear energy and power, you're working on fufu and rice," one Philip Kumi said in response to the news.
"Americans do not eat charred food, but they have a higher rate of cancer than we do." Is it possible for you to look into this and leave our fufu for us? "We need more and better details," one George Kuma retorted, amusingly.
Meanwhile, the experts have devised a method to combat cancer, even if you regularly consume fufu or fried rice.
To avoid burning or charring, they recommended cooking food on a moderate or low heat setting. As a result, smoked fish used in the production of fufu soup should be consumed quickly. This will help to avoid future pollution, which could lead to cancer.
