As a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Chelsea may not be the only team sanctioned by the British government.

The meeting between Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has brought the club into the spotlight.

According to the BBC, the British government has slammed City owner Mansour for meeting with Putin ally Assad recently.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) warned the Athletic that "in the absence of a shift in Syrian regime behavior, expanding links threatens the likelihood of a lasting and inclusive peace in Syria."

City might follow in Chelsea's footsteps at a time when political tensions are causing problems in the Premier League.

The government has placed a hold on Blues owner Roman Abramovich's assets, preventing the club from being sold or transferred.
