A lot of attention has been drawn towards the delay in the release of Ghana's squad to face the Nigerian national team on Friday. The management of the Ghana football club claimed it was a ploy to keep their opponents in suspense. The squad was finally released on Tuesday morning and featured four goalkeepers, nine defenders, six midfielders, four wingers, and four strikers. The twenty-seven man squad include Joseph Walacott, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, Lawrence Ati Zigi, Richard Ofori, Danis Odoi, Andy Yiadom, Gideon Mensah, Dennis Korsah, Montari Kemaheni, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo, Alexander Dziku, Abdul Mumin, Iddrisu Baba, Elisha Owusu, Thomas Partey, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, Felix Afena Gyan, Christopher Antwi-Adjei, Jordan Ayew and Kwesi Wreidt.

The newly appointed coach Otto Addo, release the squad list which led to a lot of reactions from Ghanaians. The former captain of the Black Stars team, Asamoah Gyan commented on Twitter on why Majeed Ashimeru has not been included and cautioned management of the Ghana football association to be unbiased in the selection of players. Some players who did not receive a call-up for the national team were surprised to know it was based on the report of injury which was barely true. The game is likely to be an intense one as both national teams face off in match-defining ties in which the winner qualifies for the world cup in Qatar.
