ust around 2 pm, the Ghana National Fire Service was alarmed by a distress call from an eyewitness in a deadly accident at Beposo Asem Asa No.1 on the Cape Coast-Takoradi highway. A Ford minibus with over nineteen (19) passengers including the driver, were crushed by a tipper truck loaded with quarry. The collision was so severe that it sparked flames upon impact. The flames dived up high into the sky with bursting sounds and screams of victims trapped in the minibus. The intensity of the fire scared off rescuers from the neighbouring community as they fear they might lose their lives in an attempt to rescue any of them. Sadly as they watched on, traffic began to build up at both ends of the road. Minutes later a fire tender from the National Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service arrived. It was already late!

It was pretty a helpless situation but they had to extinguish the fire and ease the traffic. Perhaps their chances of saving a life could count. Many residents who heard about this incident hurriedly rushed to the scene to have a glimpse of it. According to witnesses, the tipper truck was overtaking another vehicle but lost control and run into the Ford minibus which was bound for Takoradi. It is reported that the driver in the tipper truck dived out of the truck before the collision. However, no one has been able to trace his whereabouts. The National Ambulance Service is hoping they could save some lives if the Fire Service manages to extinguish the fire in time. The trauma center at the Western Region's referral center, Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital has been alerted about the incident to prepare for admission of patients from the accident. This is the first deadly accident recorded in the first quarter of the year via that highway, and for that matter, the Western Region. A body count and forensic examination may be commenced into this accident so that the bodies of the victims will be identified soon. But some families who might have knowledge of or were anticipating a visit from relatives are probably making contacts to verify their safety.
