The world is a delusion which can be epitomized by a mirage. But have you ever sat to cogitate over how to live in the world of of deception without falling into its delusions?. The story below which is an embodiment of great lessons exemplifies how we are deluded by the world and its glitters.

There is a man walking down the jungle. And upon looking behind, he sees a lion pursuing him. In order to save his dear life, he runs and upon reaching a well, he jumps into it, since jumping into the well is the best choice for time being. Luckily for him, while falling he sees a rope hanging, manages to hold on to the rope and breathes a sigh of relief. And he looks beneath him and unfortunately, he sees a huge serpent with its mouth widely opened, waiting for him to fall.

So he is now in a dual situation, either of which is life threatening. That is, a lion above and a huge serpent beneath. His only support and source of happiness now is the rope. All of a sudden, he sees two mice, a black and a white mice. They set upon the rope and begin to nibble the rope. The only support for the man, which is the rope is also now being nibbled. Thus he loses all hope of survival.

Still in this all-hope-lost situation, he sees a honeycomb in front of him. He sticks a finger into the honey, places it upon his tongue. The sweetness of the honey momentarily makes him oblivious about the fact that his life is in jeopardy.

One would ask; how does the above story relate to the delusional nature of the world? The following are derived from the story;

The lion is symbolic of death, always pursuing man

The serpent symbolizes the grave, wherein all and sundry would fall

The rope is symbolic of the life of man, thus he clings onto his aspirations in life

The honey represents the glitters of the world, which make one forgets about death and the grave.

The white mouse is the day, the black mouse being symbolic of the night. Thus the occurrences of day and night nibble upon man’s life. Every moment that elapses is never regained, with all efforts. It is said that to waste time is worse than death since when one dies, his connection with the world is broken but when one wastes time, he has wasted his connection with God.
