Alisson, the Liverpool goalkeeper, believes Pep Guardiola had an indirect influence on his development as a young player in Brazil.
Much has been written about Pep Guardiola's creative use of his goalkeepers, particularly Ederson's ability to play with his feet for Manchester City.
However, it appears that Guardiola's philosophies are indirectly benefiting Liverpool, as their goalkeeper Alisson has revealed how he was trained as a child to play like a Guardiola team.
This season, Alisson and Liverpool are directly competing with City for the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup, with Alisson also competing with Ederson for the number one jersey for Brazil. The two are widely regarded as the best two goalkeepers in the Premier League, and Results are compared between them on a regular basis.
In an interview with former City goalkeeper David James for Sony Sports India, Alisson says Guardiola was the inspiration for one of his coaches, who instilled the importance of keepers being comfortable with both their feet and their hands.
He stated: "I believe that the most important factor is confidence, which comes from doing things and playing. You also need to have a team that enjoys playing with the goalkeeper, as well as a manager who gives you the freedom to play because you can be good [for the team].
"However, if your players turn their backs to you when you have the ball, you will only be able to kick long balls work like that."
"I have the necessary skills, but I worked hard on them while playing for my youth team." "I once had a manager who admired Guardiola's Barcelona team and how they used the goalkeeper a lot, so he tried to do that with his U20 team and it helped me a lot." Then I went to Rome and improved a little bit, but I feel most at ease here at Liverpool because the players really want me to be an extra player on the field."
