Tammy Abraham, a former Chelsea striker, broke Roma striker Gabriel Batistuta's long-held record by scoring twice against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
The England forward had scored 21 goals in his first season in the Italian capital prior to Sunday's meeting.
Abraham joined Jose Mourinho's team for £40 million from Chelsea and has been named the club's player of the season thus far.
Only Batistuta and Vincenzo Montella had scored more goals in their first seasons at the club than Abraham [21], but the former Aston Villa striker outscored both of them in the first half with a brace against Lazio. It was Abraham's 23rd goal of the season, cementing his place in Roma history.
Lorenzo Pellegrini netted an unbelievable long-range free-kick to give Roma a 3-0 half-time lead after Abraham's brace.
The three points are critical for Mourinho's squad to get above their city rivals and into fifth place.
Roma would be eight points behind Juventus in the Champions League, which is now in fourth position.
