Barcelona coach Xavi has urged the club to use the current international break to negotiate contract extensions for two players, according to La Vanguardia. The Spaniard wishes to meet with the agents of midfielder Gavi and defender Ronald Araujo.

Gavi, 17, made his first team debut at the start of the season. With his eye-catching performances, he has scripted a meteoric rise to prominence. He has made 24 La Liga appearances, starting 18, and scored seven goals to establish himself as a key member of the squad.

The Blaugrana are now preparing to meet with his agent, Ivan de la Pena, in order to extend his contract until 2027.

This would also increase his release clause from €50 million to a mind-boggling €1 billion.

In a further boost for Barcelona, the 17-year-old has refused to listen to offers from other clubs, preferring to stay at the Camp Nou. According to the Spanish newspaper Diario Sport, the teenager and Araujo have assured Xavi that they want to stay at the club.

According to Gavi's entourage:

"Gavi is a big Barça fan; he's happy here and wants to stay."

Barcelona is eager to sign Ronald Araujo to a new contract.

Ronald Araujo struggled to find a spot on the senior team when he first made his debut in 2019-20.

However, he has made significant progress since last season, and Xavi believes Araujo has improved even more under his tutelage.

This season, the Uruguayan has made 22 appearances in the top flight, scoring four goals. This includes one in the recent 4-0 El Clasico thrashing of Real Madrid.

Despite receiving offers from Premier League clubs, the Uruguayan, like Gavi, has expressed his desire to remain. However, before putting pen to paper, he demanded a wage increase. With a weekly salary of around £50,000, he is currently one of the team's lowest earners.

Araujo's contract with Barcelona is set to expire in 2023. He has a €100 million termination clause, which was increased to €200 million after he was promoted from Barcelona B to the first team last season.
