On May 5, 2022, four police officers and one citizen will testify in the traffic offence case against the suspended Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, Abdul Mumin Issah, before the Takoradi Habour Circuit A.
Inspector Sarfo Andrews, Constable Kusi Antwi Ebenezer, Detective Inspector Solomon Odoi, the Investigator, General Sgt Emmanuel Akyirem, and Bright Appiah Boakye are the five people who have testified.
The new development comes when Superintendent Emmanuel Basintale, the prosecutor, was finally allowed to file and serve disclosures to the defense counsel.
Due to the prosecutor's inability to file his disclosure and serve the defense counsel in time for the case to proceed, the case was delayed on March 17 to March 22, 2022.
Meanwhile, the presiding Judge, His Worship Michael Kwadwoe Ampadu, adjourned the case until May 5 and encouraged the witnesses and prosecutor to appear so that the case could continue.
The Western Regional Police Command detained the embattled Mayor on Thursday, February 3, for an alleged motor traffic violation, verbal assault, and offensive conduct against a police officer "who was exercising his legitimate duty."
He was then brought before the court to answer the charges leveled against him.
Mr Issah pleaded not guilty to all charges at his initial appearance and was later granted bail in the amount of GH100,000 with three sureties.
A video of an altercation between the MCE and a police officer, Superintendent Andrew Sarfo, near the Kwesimintsim cemetery, went viral on social media.
On tape, the suspended Mayor threatens to move the police officer for persisting on doing the right thing.
He also called the officer "ugly" and claimed that if the latter had replied to the obscenities hurled at him by the former, he (Mr Issah) would have beaten him (Police officer) to death.
The officer, on the other hand, stayed firm and had the MCE arrested by the patrol squad.
