According to Fichajes, Real Madrid is interested in signing Leicester City midfielder James Maddison to replace Luka Modric (as reported via Caughtoffisde).
Los Blancos are seeking for a replacement for the experienced Croatian midfielder, who has been a key member of the squad for many years. The 36-year-old is nearing the end of his career, and Real Madrid must find a replacement as quickly as possible.
Maddison is one of the players on Real Madrid's shortlist to replace Modric at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to the aforementioned report.
Madrid will also attempt to play Maddison further up in the No.10 spot, allowing Eduardo Camavinga to directly replace Modric in the starting XI, according to Caughtoffside.
During his time at Real Madrid, Modric has excelled in a variety of midfield positions. While typically a No.8, the Croatian has also played as a deep-lying midfielder and a playmaking No.10 when called upon.
The ageing midfield of Real Madrid
The Real Madrid midfield combination of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Casemiro will go down in history as one of the best to have ever played together.
The trio dominated the last decade, helping Madrid win two La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies, among other achievements.
However, with Modric at 36, Kroos at 32, and Casemiro at 30, the midfield trio's prime days are drawing to a close, and they must be replaced.
Is Maddison the right player for Real Madrid?
Leicester City signed James Maddison from Norwich City in 2018 for a reported cost of £22.5 million. Since then, he has made 158 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions, scoring 40 goals and assisted on another 27.
In 40 games this season, the Englishman has 13 goals and seven assists. Maddison's greatest years are yet ahead of him at the age of 25, and he deserves to play for a good team.
Maddison may usher in a new age of Galacticos at Real Madrid, with the club seeking to split ways with the likes of Isco and Gareth Bale, among others.
