With the potential appointment of Erik ten Hag as the new manager, the former Manchester United central defender has been connected with a new role at the club.
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has categorically denied any possibility of returning to the club as a coach until the next permanent manager has been appointed.
The Red Devils are still on the lookout for someone to take over as interim manager Ralf Rangnick at the end of the current season, with Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham Hotspur and Erik ten Hag of Ajax being the two front-runners. The latter is said to have held talks with United's top brass earlier this week.
In response, rumors began to circulate that Ferdinand had wanted to be a member of Ten Hag's backroom coaching staff, but the former England international has quickly debunked such claims. In a short video posted to the United legend's FIVE YouTube account, he dismissed the rumors, but did offer a glimpse into what the dressing room might be like if he were participating.
"I've been online, I'm supposed to be applying or putting myself forward for the assistant manager's job at Manchester United - I'm not sure who receives this crazy news, but when have you pushed the send button and thought, 'actually, no I ain't so what you babbling about?'
"Whoever told you that, you need to go back to your source and say 'listen dude,' because if I went in there - ooh, the whip would be cracking, snap that whip, but no, I'm not going in there." The six-time Premier League champion then went on to discuss his current communication with the club.
"I have a wonderful relationship with the club, a good relationship with the people who work there, I know a lot of the players, I know a lot of the guys behind the scenes - you know how much I love the club." Manchester United has a special place in my heart, and I adore it. West Ham is where I grew up, and I adore the club.
"I played all of my years at Manchester United, especially my finest years, and I adore the club; my children cheer for it, but I'm not coaching there. You heard it first here, guy, those crazy tales - find out who that geezer [the person behind the rumors] is."
United are hoping to name Rangnick's replacement before the end of the season, which began with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm before his sacking in late November last year.
The Red Devils are now in sixth place in the Premier League rankings, four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, despite having played one game more. The match against Mikel Arteta's team at the Emirates next month might be crucial for United's Champions League qualification aspirations.
