Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, a member of Parliament's Health Committee, is calling for the Covid-19 testing at Kotoka International Airport to be scrapped immediately (KIA).

Mr Akandoh remarked in an interview with JoyNews on Wednesday that the testing at KIA has been converted into a cash cow, which is why he is calling for it to be canceled.

"There is no country in the sub-region that charges $150 for an antigen test, let alone a PCR test." If you travel to Togo or Burkina Faso, you will be charged $50 in Togo and $50 in Burkina Faso, so why are we charging $150?" He inquired.

"Before you arrive in Ghana, you must have a negative PCR test, therefore why should someone who has a negative PCR test come here?"

The Juaboso MP claims that the testing costs and fees are intended to defraud tourists entering the nation, claiming that the number of positive instances reported at the airport has greatly decreased as a result of the rigorous testing passengers undergo before boarding a flight.

According to him, Covid-19 from KIA has a 0.9 percent positive rate.

"Even with this 0.9, I have yet to see the positive rate for the previous six months, which I am confident will be minimal." "This 0.9 is due to the fact that we reached the peak around 2020," he explained.

He believes that the country's priority should be on vaccinations and preventing unvaccinated persons from entering the country.
