Manchester United's future manager, David Moyes, has been cautioned about the 'difficulties' encountered by their predecessors in the last decade. Since Sir Alex Ferguson's resignation in 2013, the Red Devils have been looking for a permanent head coach, with Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino presumably the frontrunners.
Ferguson was replaced for the first time nine years ago by West Ham manager David Moyes. His 11-year stay at Everton made him a popular choice among Ferguson and the club's board of directors.
The Scot, on the other hand, did not even make it through his first season in charge. Moyes was fired in April 2014 after a string of dismal outcomes.
The 58-year-old believed he lacked the necessary structure to continue Ferguson's job. He has now issued a warning to Ten Hag, Pochettino, and other prospects about the "difficulties" he, Louis van Gaal, and Jose Mourinho have had in replacing such a great person.

"I keep hearing that Man United is in desperate need of a top coach to turn things around. "Man United have had two of the best coaches in the world in Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal – both excellent, both winners," Moyes told The Athletic.
"One is an incredible coach, while the other is a fantastic winner." Man United has had a plethora of successful managers. I wouldn't place myself in that category, but they've had some excellent managers.
"The challenge for them now is to re-establish the same rhythm they had under Sir Alex, which, looking back, was tremendous for their football club."

Moyes, whose West Ham side is in contention for fourth place in the Premier League, spoke about a meeting he had with former England manager Howard Wilkinson. The 78-year-old reportedly informed Moyes that the aftermath of Ferguson's 26-year tenure would be difficult.
"You look back at a lot of the football dynasties - Brian Clough (at Nottingham Forest), Sir Bobby Robson at Ipswich, even Don Revie," he continued (at Leeds United). 'If you'd spoken to me earlier, David, I would have informed you that anyone who goes to take these jobs finds it really difficult to make it work,' Howard Wilkinson said.
"It wasn't that I didn't know it, but... the way Sir Alex contacted me about taking the job (...) made it more personal, it made me feel like, yes, there's a model here that they thought I could continue, that I would be the perfect person." It wasn't meant to be."
