Cesar Azpilicueta of Chelsea is awaiting clarification on the club's predicament before making a decision on his future, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. The contract of the Spaniard with the club expires this summer.

In recent years, Azpilicueta has been a key member of Chelsea's squad. The Spaniard has developed into a formidable leader for his club since joining the Blues from Marseille in 2012.

Azpilicueta has played right centre-back and right back for the Blues under boss Thomas Tuchel. The 32-year-old has established himself as a regular starter because to his on-field performances and leadership. His time with Chelsea, however, appears to be coming to a close this summer.

According to Mirror, the player's entourage and the club discussed a contract renewal a few months ago. However, due to the UK government's recent censure on the club's Russian owner Roman Abramovich, the Blues are unable to extend any contracts.

As a result, there has been a great deal of doubt around the futures of several players who are nearing the end of their contracts. One of them is Azpilicueta, who is allegedly awaiting clarification from his club before making any decisions on his future.

According to Express, the Spaniard has a firm offer on the table from Spanish giants Barcelona. The Catalans are making every effort to entice the 32-year-old to join them.

More Chelsea players, aside from Cesar Azpilicueta, could wind up playing in La Liga next season. Left-back Marcos Alonso discussed the prospect of playing in the Spanish league in an interview with AS (via Sport Witness). Alonso mentioned that he would love to play in the Spanish League and that he knows Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid well.

"I've always wanted to play in La Liga, and I've always wanted to be here in Spain, but circumstances have changed, and not everything has been dependent on me." Right now, I'm focused on this season and what needs to be done. Yes, I have relatives on both sides of my family. I'm at Chelsea right now and I have a contract for this and the next season".

Unless Chelsea is sold, the situation at the club may remain unchanged. According to Sky Sports, there have been numerous bids for the club in recent weeks.

In the next weeks, fans will be praying for a swift handover. The 2021-22 season is coming to a close, and the Blues are running out of time to resolve their player contract difficulties.
