Uruguay will compete in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. They defeated Peru 1-0 to qualify for their fourth consecutive global tournament.
The old guard, including Luis Suarez, Cavani, and Diego Godin, as well as newer faces like Barcelona's Ronald Araujo, were able to get it done before their penultimate game against Chile.
Araujo started at right back, as he did practically every time Uruguay played. Godin and Gimenez have had an unbroken partnership for years. In the Clasico, Xavi also employed Araujo there.
He played 90 minutes in the 1-0 triumph over Peru, displaying his typical power and posing a threat from set pieces at the other end.
If nothing changes, he appears to be a member of Diego Alonso's World Cup squad. Barcelona will hope to have renewed his contract before then.
