Despite recovering his spot in the Chelsea club under Thomas Tuchel, Marcos Alonso has stated that he would love to play in LaLiga and that he could be open to a return to Spain following his time at Stamford Bridge.

Marcos Alonso joined Chelsea from Fiorentina in 2016 for a reported £24 million five-year agreement. He made an early impression in his first season under Antonio Conte, appearing 35 times for the Blues and scoring six goals in all competitions.

In the following seasons, the Real Madrid academy graduate was a regular for the Blues, and he even signed a contract extension in 2018 that would keep him at the club until the summer of 2023.

Following the appointment of Frank Lampard as manager in July 2019, Alonso's playing time was substantially curtailed. Following the arrival of Ben Chilwell in 2020, Alonso was pushed further down the pecking order, making only 17 appearances across all competitions last season.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Alonso appears to have rehabilitated himself, as he has already made 34 appearances in all competitions this season. However, with his contract expiring next summer and Chelsea being mired in uncertainty, his future remains uncertain, with rumors of a return to Spain circulating.

According to recent sources, Barcelona is interested in acquiring his services, and the player is also said to have ties to Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. When asked about the idea of playing in La Liga, Alonso told AS (via Sport Witness) that he would love to play and show himself in the Spanish league, but that his current emphasis is on his responsibilities with the Blues. He stated,

"I've always wanted to play in La Liga, and I've always wanted to be here in Spain, but circumstances have changed, and not everything has been dependent on me." At the moment, I'm focused on this season, and whatever needs to be done will be done."

"I have familial relations on all sides, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes Chelsea is at the moment. I'm under contract for this season and one more."

The saga of Chelsea's ownership continues.

"I've always wanted to play in La Liga, and I've always wanted to be here in Spain, but circumstances have changed, and not everything has been dependent on me." At the moment, I'm focused on this season, and whatever needs to be done will be done."

"I have familial relations on all sides, yes, yes. I'm focused on Chelsea at the moment. I'm under contract for this season and one more." .

Due to harsh restrictions, Roman Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea, and the club's future ownership has yet to be identified. Although initial reports stated that a new owner(s) could be in place by the end of March, this appears to be exceedingly doubtful.

According to reports, up to eight parties have expressed interest in purchasing the club, causing the process to take longer than expected.
