Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Macroeconomic Policy, has stated that he has presidential ambitions.
According to the former Member of Parliament and Minister of Trade, his current job as an ECOWAS Commissioner forbids him from actively participating in politics, which explains his lack of candor in making his intentions known.
"Everyone aspires to be a leader in whatever they do." Yes, I am interested in running for president. Perhaps it's because of the work I do that I haven't been as honest as others.
"While we hold such posts, we are not authorized to engage directly in politics." You might be in a position where, just for the sake of debate, you are the ECOWAS Commissioner in charge of Macroeconomic Policy.
You can't work together if the Ghanaian Finance Minister is also running or planning to run, and you're running. So we're supposed to hide our interests rather than publicly express them," he remarked on JoyNews' PM Express Personality Profile on Friday.
He went on to say that such a declaration could jeopardize his job as a Commissioner because of a potential conflict of interest.
"And then, God forbid, if there's an issue in Ghana and an ECOWAS delegation is coming, and I'm running for President and there's a problem with the NDC, my colleagues may adopt a position that isn't good for ECOWAS as a result."
"As a result, they don't allow us to engage in politics." But then not to think about or accomplish anything without exhibiting your ambition in public. As a result, my feeling is that when the moment is perfect and we go through the process, God provide me the strength to enter the race," he remarked.
