The most expensive players from the top 25 nations are listed in FIFA rating order...
1) Eden Hazard (£103.5 million from Chelsea to Real Madrid)
Real Madrid has six goals in 65 games and is now unable to compete with the actual team. It hasn't gone well thus far.
2) Brazil: Neymar (£198 million from Barcelona to PSG) won eight French titles. Has never appeared to be content or happy.
3) Kylian Mbappe (£166.4 million from Monaco to PSG)
Until he leaves for nothing this summer, it appears to be a good investment for a great player.
4) Argentina: Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli to Juventus – £75.3 million) At Juventus, he won three Serie A titles in four years, which sounds impressive. It's been left for naught, which it isn't.
5) England: Jack Grealish (£100 million transfer from Aston Villa to Manchester City)
Check out this list of the season's worst signings.
6) Italy: Jorginho (£57 million from Napoli to Chelsea) is the world's third best player.
7) Kepa Arrizabalaga (£71.6 million from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea)
This will always be amusing. This XI is made.
8) Joao Felix (£114.5 million from Benfica to Atletico Madrid)
It's been hit-or-miss, albeit with five goals in his last seven games, it's been more hit than miss.
9) Joachim Andersen (Sampdoria to Lyon – £21.6 million) from Denmark
Christian Eriksen, Jannik Vestergaard, Kasper Dolberg, and Thomas Delaney are among the Danish players who have transferred for similar sums, but this 2019 transaction appears to be the most likely to have exceeded £20 million. Lyon was forced to sell their captain to Crystal Palace at a loss two years later.
Virgil van Dijk (Southampton to Liverpool – £75 million) From Netherlands
Virgil van Dijk (Southampton to Liverpool –
At twice the price, it's a bargain. Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong, two great pretenders, both moved for a little less.
11) Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea - £72 million) from Germany
The second he scored the Champions League-winning goal, he became a bargain. And with four goals already this month, he is Chelsea's most dangerous striker.Hirving Lozano (PSV Eindhoven to Napoli – £36 million) is the 12th player from Mexico.
Napoli, without a doubt, wanted more bang for their buck than 25 goals and 10 assists in 107 games.
13) Christian Pulisic (£58.3 million from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea)
Pulisic's Chelsea time was marred by injuries and illness, leaving us with a 5/10 impression.
14) Granit Xhaka (£33.8 million from Borussia Monchengladbach to Arsenal)
Xhaka has appeared to be a disaster on 427 occasions, but he is now an unlikely member of a successful and lovable Arsenal squad.Mateo Kovacic (£40.5 million from Real Madrid to Chelsea) is the 15th best player in Croatia.
Although Kovacic is unlikely to be in Chelsea's first-team lineup, he has been a good purchase for the club.
16) Uruguay: Luis Suarez (£65 million transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona)
Suarez is one of the few unquestionable hits on the list, with 195 goals and 113 assists in 283 appearances for Barcelona.
17) Sweden: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (£56 million transfer from Inter Milan to Barcelona)
The most important transfer for Zlatan was the one that didn't work out.
18) Senegal: Sadio Mane (£34 million transfer from Southampton to Liverpool)
He is an absolute bargain after winning the Premier League and the Champions League.
19) Colombia: James Rodriguez (£71 million transfer from Monaco to Real Madrid)
Somehow, we believe Liverpool will be happier with their lower-cost acquisition of Luis Diaz. Oh, and to save you a Google, ripping it up in the Qatar Stars League.
Gareth Bale (Tottenham to Real Madrid – £85.3 million) is the 20th player from Wales.
We don't think this record will ever be broken. And then there was this.
Alireza Jahanbakhsh (AZ Alkmaar to Brighton – £17 million) is the 21st player from Iran.
He was sold for less than £1 million three years later to Feyenoord, where he has already scored twice as many goals in seven months as he did for the Seagulls. But what about Iran? We had no idea what was about to happen.
22. Peru: Juan Manuel Vargas (£9.5 million transfer from Catania to Fiorentina)
It's a record that's been in place for 14 years and could last another 14.
Shoya Nakajima (Portimonense to Al-Duhail – £31.5 million) 23) Japan
Have you never heard of him? You haven't, of course. In February 2019, a Japanese footballer left a Portuguese team for a Qatari club, only to return to Porto a few months later for a third of the price. Since then, he has been on loan to a UAE team before returning to Portimonense, where he has only scored one league goal this season. Everything appears to be entirely normal and legal.24) Morocco: Achraf Hakimi (£60 million transfer from Inter Milan to PSG)
In Paris, he is already thought to be 'fed up.'
25) Serbia: Dusan Vlahovic (£62.8 million transfer from Fiorentina to Juventus)
The game's major January signing was the most recent addition to the list. Since his arrival, Juventus has gone undefeated in Serie A, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League once more.
