Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Benfica, and Real Madrid are all in the Champions League quarter-finals, vying for a place in the semi-finals.
The Champions League pays out generously to teams, and this year would be no exception. This season, each team in the Champions League earns €15.64 million, and many of the teams in the quarter-finals would be looking forward to the massive sums of money they would be earning if they advanced to the semi-finals.
This would provide further impetus.Eight teams failed to qualify for the quarter-finals stage, but the eight who did would be awarded €10.6 million each.
Four of the eight teams in the quarter-finals would receive €12.5 million if they advanced to the semi-finals.
Two teams will go to the final of the prestigious competition, with the winner taking home a stunning €20 million in addition to the trophy. The €15.5 million prize pool for the runner-up or finalist would soften the blow of missing out on the trophy.
This means that any team that reaches the final will receive a minimum of €38.6 million and a maximum of €43.1 million.
