THE LAMP DEVOTION Job 36:26-33 “Behold, God is great, and we do not know Him; Nor can the number of His years be discovered. 27 For He draws up drops of water, which distill as rain from the mist, 28 Which the clouds drop down and pour abundantly on man. 29 Indeed, can anyone understand the spreading of clouds, the thunder from His canopy? 30 Look, He scatters His light upon it, and covers the depths of the sea. 31 For by these He judges the peoples; He gives food in abundance. 32 He covers His hands with lightning, and commands it to strike. 33 His thunder declares it, the cattle also, concerning the rising storm.
I trust that the profundity that captured my heart when I read this passage will capture yours as well. When we say God is great, we often do not fully understand what that means because we use the same terminology for humans. Someone does something and we are quick to say, “that was awesome”.
We also use the word awesome to describe some human beings, to the point that when we use the same language for God, it is difficult to understand what we mean by all that. See how graphic Job describes the awesomeness of God, using God’s control and intervention in His created world as a foundation for his assertion. He has not come to know the immense love God demonstrates towards humanity. People like Job had real encounters with God.
What we will naturally describe as bitter, difficult, devastating and simply evil, to Job these were opportunities to discover the Almighty in His greatness. You can stop at this point and yell from the depths of your being, “Who is like unto Thee, O Lord?” This is not a question; this is declaring His unsearchable, unfathomable greatness. Remain blessed in the name of Jesus!
Prayer
1.Thank God for revealing Himself in creation so we will have no doubts about Him. 2. Pray for a greater eye opener like Job had so you will know God very well. 3. Father, please lift me up from the ashes into Your presence, that I will behold Your greatness.
Declarations
I declare that there is no one like unto my God and my heavenly Father. He is from everlasting to everlasting the only true God. No one stands before Him in argument. His breath is what keeps humanity going. All men everywhere shall bow to You O Lord and the princes and kings of the earth shall fall prostrate before Your throne. Hallelujah!
