THE LAMP DEVOTION

2 Kings 6:16-18 16.So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18 So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, and said, “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

Today’s passage reminds me of a phrase in one of the very popular Christian hymns, what a friend we have in Jesus. Particularly the phrase that says: “O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer”. The psychology of prayer is that once we make our case before One who is greater than all, everything will be well. Elisha’s servant had needless pain and loss of peace because he did not know what they had. There are many today who live in fear and anxiety because they are not sure of what awaits them.

This happens because they do not have experiential knowledge of God’s abundant resources for them, including God’s unwavering commitment to their welfare. If you find yourself in that category, you can do one or two things – ask God to open your eyes for your version of what Elisha’s servant saw, or take Elisha’s servant’s experience as an example, assuring yourself that God is on your side. Whatever the case may be, you have no portion worrying and being afraid of someone trying to mess you up. Our heavenly Father is greater than all.

Prayer

1. Thank God for always fighting for you even when you don’t feel it. 2. Pray that your faith in God’s protection over your life will grow day by day. 3. Father, You are more than enough for me. I trust in Your absolute protection over my life.

Declarations

I declare that those that are for me are more than those against me. I have Father, Son and Holy Spirit working on my behalf to ensure that my life is permanently on course. No one and nothing can therefore harm me or derail God’s purpose for my life. In Christ, I walk God’s path to success, prosperity and fulfillment of my destiny in the name of Jesus.
