MAJ. GEN. CONSTANCE EMEFA EDJEANI-AFENU LAID TO REST

President Nana Akufu-Addo was among the numerous high-profile figures who flocked to the Garrison Methodist Presbyterian church in Burma camp to pay their respects to a woman characterized as a trailblazer in the Ghana military forces, where she climbed to become the first female Brigadier General.

 

Constance Ama Edjeani-Afenu, now Maj. Gen. Constance Ama Edjeani-Afenu, was the sixth of ten children who enlisted in the Ghana military school on November 19, 1978, at the youthful age of 18 years, to pursue the standard cadet course.

 

During her military career, she held a number of important positions, including those with the United Nations on international missions. She was the first female to be appointed as the Deputy Military Advisor at Ghana's permanent representation to the United Nations in New York, where she served until 2016.

 

Bishop Dr. Charles Agyinasare, Head Pastor of Perez Chapel International, praised her as someone who was there for everyone, regardless of their status, during the service to honor this famous daughter of the nation.

 

The family and the Ghanaian military forces, where she served until her death, also paid tribute.

 

Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, who was next to speak, said that President Nana Akufo-Addo had promoted the late Constance Ama Edjeani-Afenu to the rank of Major-General, much to the delight of the officers present at the burial. According to Ghanaian military tradition, Major-General Constance Ama Edjeani-Afenu was accorded a full military funeral.

 

Major-General Constance Ama Edjeani-remains Afenu's were transported through Burma Camp to the military, where she was laid to rest after a funeral ceremony.
