Darren Bent, a former Tottenham Hotspur attacker, believes Roberto Mancini would be an excellent choice as Manchester United's next permanent manager.
The 38-year-old believes the Italian is a better manager than Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag, both of whom have been heavily linked with the job at Manchester United.
According to Bent, Mancini's experience managing in the Premier League and winning the competition (2012) should not be underestimated.
The former player-turned-pundit has no objections to former Manchester City manager Jose Mourinho taking over as manager of the Red Devils.
"He is a winner," Bent said of the 57-year-old on TalkSPORT (via the Express).
He's won the Premier League, so he's got the experience; he's won the Euros, even though I know it didn't go well with the North Macedonia result. But if United is willing to pay a ransom, why not?
"Manchester United is the most powerful club in the world." I understand that winning Manchester City's first Premier League title and then moving to United would be a big deal, but we've seen managers (move to rivals) before." There are no jobs for him in these circumstances; Manchester United is there, and they just say, 'You know what, what do you think?' "I believe he is better than (Erik) ten Hag and, without a doubt, Mauricio Pochettino." He has demonstrated that he is capable of doing so in this country; I think that is vital. He has got the Premier League experience – I know he ended up leaving, but then he won a massive trophy with Italy in the Euros, so you cannot question his pedigree in winning things.”
Mancini's credentials as a manager were bolstered last summer when he led Italy to the Euro 2020 title over England.
The Italian, however, was unable to get his team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup after the Azzurri were defeated in the playoff semi-finals by North Macedonia on Thursday.
