Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, are still hopeful of reaching an agreement with Mohamed Salah on a new long-term contract, according to Football Insider.

Fresh concerns about the Egyptian superstar's future have emerged after Jurgen Klopp stated last month that the club has made no progress in securing him a new contract.

According to a Liverpool source, club executives believe Salah will finally lower his wage demands in order to stay at Anfield and sign a "big" new contract.

This confidence stems in part from a lack of credible options for the Premier League's top scorer this season, both in England and on the Continent.

Both Spanish heavyweights have had financial issues, Chelsea's financial ambitions post-Roman Abramovich are uncertain, and a move to Manchester United is out of the question.

That leaves PSG, who may lose Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi this summer, and Manchester City, who are pursuing Erling Haaland as their big summer acquisition, as potential candidates among the global elite capable of meeting Salah's wage demands.

The 29-year-preferred old's destination is Anfield, but he and his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, have turned down the club's most recent contract offer.

In response to Jurgen Klopp's comments that "it's all completely fine" and "there's no rush" with the negotiations, Abbas Issa sparked outrage by posting smiling emojis on his own social media account.

Salah wants £500,000 per week to stay at Anfield, which he claims is not "crazy" given his achievements there.

FSG is optimistic that a "major" agreement with its star player can be reached before the summer.

As a result, Salah's wage demands would have to be reduced, which the club's administration believes is likely.

His current contract expires in June 2023, so the weeks leading up to the summer will be critical as he enters the final year of his contract.
