In the midst of the Crystal Palace crisis, England manager Gareth Southgate has told Thomas Tuchel that Conor Gallagher's pressing ability could benefit his Chelsea team in the long run.

Gareth Southgate's side had fallen behind midway through the first half after Breel Embolo of Borussia Monchengladbach had headed the away side ahead the away side in front after some sustained pressure on the England goal. However, before halftime, the midfielder played a key role in setting up Luke Shaw for the equalizer.

The 22-year-old was substituted in the second half, but not because of his performance, but rather to give others more playing time. As Jamie Redknapp suggested after the game, his performance in this match, if followed by an impressive Ivory Coast performance, could cause Southgate a major selection headache ahead of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

"I have to be completely honest, I really like him, but I didn't see him becoming the player he has," he said on Sky Sports before the game. "I saw him a lot in the Chelsea youth team and he was a good technical player; what's made the difference for him is confidence and determination." When you see yourself in the news, scoring goals live on Sky against Everton, those are the moments that everyone remembers. People will go out into the garden and attempt to recreate those moments. He's nicking in with goals, scruffy goals, increasing his numbers, and that's what gets you noticed "As a footballer, I believe you are aware of this. When you're playing well, getting a 7/10 is fine. It's when you start scoring goals that you get on the back pages and people start talking about you in a different light as a midfielder. He's grown into a complete person." Gallagher, as previously stated, was the toast of the country, with Harry Kane and the national media waxing lyrical about his potential going beyond this point. The midfielder did send a transfer message to Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel ahead of a key summer decision, and Southgate has identified the key attribute that could potentially be used in the Blues midfield next season. "He has a contagious personality. With his club, he can set the tone for the rest of the team, and he presses with ambition "Sky Sports quoted England manager Gareth Southgate as saying.
