The validation slip from the Controller and Accountant General's Department has resulted in a wage increase for the majority of Ghana's public sector workers.
It should be noted that most workers' pay increased by only 3% in January 2022, despite the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission's initial commitment to raise salaries by 7% in 2022.
It is unclear whether there were arrears in addition to the raise; this will be determined after payslips are released later this week. Meanwhile, some have speculated that the arrears owed to some employees date back to December, following the government's failure to pay 4 percent arrears for January and February, 2021 in December.

Meanwhile, a proposal for a 25% salary rise has been tabled for discussion in order to enhance salaries in 2023 salary terms and circumstances. It is recommended that if the 25% is added to public sector salary, certain workers earning Ghc 2,000 will receive an additional Ghc500, while those earning Ghc1,000 will receive an additional Ghc250, and those earning Ghc1,500 will receive an additional Ghc375.
