The defender experienced a physical issue in the warm-up in front of the success over Switzerland and was properly replaced by Arsenal's Ben White.
Chief Gareth Southgate has needed to battle with various dropouts all through the camp, losing key safeguards like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James as of now.
Close by White, Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi made his presentation in focal guard, sitting close by Conor Coady in a back three.
"John Stones has left the England camp and got back to Manchester City," read a FA explanation on Monday.
"Having removed from the firing line-up in front of Saturday's 2-1 triumph against Switzerland at Wembley, the protector has kept on being surveyed.
"After the present meeting at Tottenham Hotspur's preparation ground, it was concluded that Stones would have no influence against Côte d'Ivoire on Tuesday and has gotten back to his club as a safety measure."
