Arsenal cannot afford to let Manchester United sign Christopher Nkunku without a fight, as Edu has demonstrated.
Arsenal and Manchester United are both interested. Christopher Nkunku has been named one of the Bundesliga's top three performers this month. The 24-year-dazzling old's performances have justified his exorbitant fee, which has sparked interest from a slew of Europe's top clubs.
Nkunku, whose price tag is rumored to be £62 million, has ranked third in the Bundesliga this month, trailing only Nico Schlotterbeck and Angelino, and ahead of the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland. The RB Leipzig talisman has directly contributed to three goals in three games this month, bringing his total to nine of competitions up to 41 for the season.
Nkunku's performances earned him international recognition, and Didier Deschamps gave him his senior debut for France against Ivory Coast. With both international and domestic credentials, Arteta has demonstrated why Edu should rekindle his interest in the Frenchman and compete with United for his signature.
According to BILD, Ralf Rangnick's side is in the running to sign Nkunku during the summer transfer window. The Gunners were heavily linked with the Frenchman during the January transfer window of 2019, when he was still a player at PSG.
Nkunku has gone on to become one of Europe's most sought-after players since Arsenal failed to sign him under previous manager Unai Emery.
He could be a fantastic coup for Arteta in Arsenal's race with Manchester United for Champions League qualification.
While Nkunku is not the traditional number nine, he has used his skills as a false-nine to great effect. Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch, who previously worked with Edu at RB Leipzig, has already given Edu his blessing.
"We've talked a lot to Christopher about playing on the counter, as well as what he needs to do to play as a striker, a no.10, and on both wings," Marsch explained. "Christopher has no flaws." He is still young and has a lot more desires. " It's always a good sign when a young player listens to what we say and also wants to implement them. Working with him is a lot of fun as he is really intelligent and has a lot of potential.”
