The Premier League's top teams now have a spectrum of defenders capable of producing their own match-winning heroics, with some of the best full-backs in the world. These days, full-backs have proven to be superstars for their respective clubs. Since the emergence of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson as a dynamic, offensive duo, teams have been looking for full-backs who can provide drive and urgency to their side. The Premier League's top five full-backs this season (2021/22) are mentioned below.

Manchester United's Luke Shaw is ranked number five.

Since joining Manchester United from Southampton in 2014, Shaw never looked to fulfill his full potential until the 2020-21 season, when he established himself as one of Europe's best left-backs. He had a great Euro 2020 campaign as well, but his form has dipped this season. Despite this, he has done enough to earn a place on our list. In the Premier League and the Champions League, he has yet to score. In the Premier League, he has three assists and two in the Champions League.

Liverpool's Andy Robertson is ranked fourth.

With inexhaustible energy, pace, defensive tenacity, and deadly wide delivery, the Scotland captain is one of the division's most well-rounded full-backs. In 146 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, Robertson has over 47 assists, including eleven this season, nine in the Premier League and two in the Champions League. In the Premier League in 2021-22, only one other full-back teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, provides more. Robertson is a set-piece specialist for the Reds, and if he can add goals to his game, he will have a strong claim to be the finest full-back in the Premier League.

3. Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold

Alexander- Arnold's performance fell during the 2020-21 season, which was understandable considering the fact that the entire Liverpool team was hindered by a defensive injury crisis. On the other hand, the 23-year-old has been at his best this season, with 13 assists in all competitions. It's no wonder that Liverpool is so reliant on the academy graduate because of his passing range and ability to deliver accurate crosses to his colleagues.

2. Chelsea's Reece James  I’m

It's been fascinating to watch Reece James rise from the Championship to the Premier League. James, a Chelsea academy product, joined Wigan Athletic on loan in 2018 and soon established himself as one of the club's best players. The 21-year-old was soon promoted to the first team upon his return to Chelsea and has been an important component of the group ever since. James has impressed with his strength and speed as a marauding right-back. This season, the England international has scored five Premier League goals and one Champions League goal. He also has six assists in the Premier League.

It's difficult to pinpoint Joao Cancelo's role in this Manchester City club, but it's clear that Pep Guardiola's system relies on Cancelo's adaptability. In 2019, Cancelo moved from Juventus to Manchester City for an eye-watering £58.5 million fee, while Danilo moved the opposite way. The Portugal international had a quiet first season, but in 2020/21, he was exceptional. With his intelligence and passing, the 27-year-old can play both fullback and midfield, allowing him to move inside and operate in the middle. Cancelo has been one of the most important players for Manchester City this season, both artistically and tactically.
