Happiness is an understatement to describe the mood of Ghanaians after they secured a World Cup spot. Even in a deplorable state, the Black Stars managed to put things together and knock out the Super Eagles. Now this hurdle is no more, what do we do? This moment foresaw by some fans brought up their skepticism about rallying behind the national team.
Before this qualifying round, we saw measures formed toward sanitizing all our national teams. The situation was necessitated after the humiliation in AFCON. Due to time factor, authorities instituted temporary structures to clear this doubleheader against Nigeria. Today, Black Stars is back to the good side of citizens, so it leaves doubts about the future. Will they stick to the initial plan of finding the deep-rooted problems in our national teams and draw a working plan for football development? Or, as usual, they’ll hang on the joyful mood of Ghanaians and present shoddy work? Even worse, overlook it as a dead case?
It’ll only be right if we don’t assume this magical moment as an “all is well”. There are problems that need attention and solutions immediately, so our football will not decline to rock bottom. It’ll be sad to use this qualification as the perfect excuse and waste another opportunity to reform Ghana Football.
