Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has denied the minority leader's prayer to suspend sitting.

The controversial electronic transaction levy returned to the house after months of back and forth between the two sides of the house.

Ken Ofori-Atta, Finance Minister and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Majority leader tabled the bill seeking for debates and a passage or otherwise.

Minority leader demanded a suspension of sitting to allow the minority members to go and take their documents containing reports to rehearse for the debate. This request was necessitated because according to him, the minority caucus was taken by surprise the tabling of the bill. His request was seconded by Ahmed Ibrahim and Nelson Dafeamekoe.

Speaker Bagbin in his response denied the minority's call for a suspension of the bill.

"I think you are right if you do not have your copies right here. But clearly, the report was laid and distributed to members. Because of the issue, it's impact and it's dealings with taxation of the people, the Ghanaians and the international community are closely watching. I will not suspend sitting. I want us to continue".

The minority then walked out of the house leaving the NPP side to pass the electronic transaction levy bill into law. However, they have promised to challenge it in the Supreme Court.
