The current coach of Aston Villa, Steven Gerrard went to seek advice from the coaches who preceded him before starting the exercise.
The Liverpool legend after hanging up his boots opened another career window as a manager. However, Gerrard started out with the Liverpool academy like any other tactician before landing on the bench at Aston Villa. Being good as a player, the legend isn't just limited to his coaching experience and he went to see someone like current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to get advice from a superior. According to Steven Gerrard, he's gotten the best advice from Klopp:
"It was one of the most important things for me when I decided to become a coach, I wanted to come back to the Liverpool Academy and I wanted to speak to Jurgen Klopp to have this little advice ," he said. he told the Liverpool Echo. His advice was, “Don't go with the name on your back. I've seen so many former players who played at a good level automatically think they could become a good coach or a good manager.
"It's important that you do two years with the Liverpool youth teams, away from the cameras, making mistakes, finding out how you want to play, trying formations, tactics. Determine the team you need around you, as you will be good at some things but not others, and find your team. Then you will know. You will have the right feeling and an opportunity will present itself. And then you can decide what you want to do from there. This is exactly how my journey began. I didn't always want to do this, it just fell into place ,” he said.
