Joan Laporta talks of possible contract with Messi, Lewandowski, Salah, Roberto, Gavi, Araujo, and Raphinha

During a recent interview with RAC1 (h/t Sport), Joan Laporta revealed a slew of details about Barcelona's stance on a variety of issues.

The Barcelona President revealed the club's stance on the ESL debate, as well as updates on the contracts of Ronald Araujo, Gavi, and Sergi Roberto, as well as the club's pursuit of new players during the summer transfer window.

Laporta began the interview by discussing Lionel Messi's possible return to Camp Nou. The club president, shockingly, ruled out the possibility of the Argentine's return, dismissing earlier-in-the-month reports.

"I have not received any communication from Leo or his entourage in this regard." We are not considering his return at this time. We are assembling a young team that is starting to work. "Leo is Leo, he is the best player in the world, but we have no plans for him to return," he said.

Following the Messi revelation, Laporta discussed the European Super League. He revealed his friendship with Florentino Perez, confirming that Barcelona is collaborating with Real Madrid on the issue.

"I have a good relationship with Florentino; I see him more now because of the Super League." The project is currently in court, but it is changing. It will be open, with a very appealing competition format."

"The Champions League could be improved." I believe we will end up with a dialogue with UEFA; that is how I intend to proceed. We cannot allow clubs like Barça, Madrid or Juventus to have a hard time competing because there are clubs that break the rules,” He stated.

Laporta appears determined to work with UEFA rather than alienate the governing body, risking sanctions and suspensions from UEFA-accredited competitions.

Following that, the Barcelona President provided an update on the contract situations of some of the team's star players.

"They are going well," he said of Gavi and Ronald Araujo. They are very important to us and want to continue. We'll come to an agreement."

Laporta's update could be a huge boost for Barcelona, especially since Gavi has recently emerged as a target for Liverpool. Araujo has a slew of suitors as well, so the Catalans are doing everything they can to keep these two La Masia graduates on their books.

While Gavi and Araujo may stay, Sergi Roberto, according to Joan Laporta, will not.

"At the start of this season, when several players reduced their salaries, he had the opportunity to renew." I couldn't figure out why he wouldn't accept. The time had come. We are currently changing the squad in order to improve it. Sergi Roberto is recovering from an injury and is not yet ready to play," said Barça President Josep Maria Bartomeu, effectively ruling out a potential extension.

Joan Laporta was also asked to comment on Barcelona's potential summer signings. He also commented on some of the linked players, including Robert Lewandowski, who is said to have agreed personal terms with the club.

Regarding Salah and Lewandowski, Laporta stated: "They're fantastic players." All of the best players want to play for Barça. None of this will be necessary for me. I don't want to complicate things."

"We have two signed contracts that are no longer open for business." Yes, it could be a center back and a midfielder. Raphina, on the other hand, is an outstanding player. We've heard nothing but good things about him. Deco (his agent) has his work and provides us with specifics so that we don't make mistakes. And in some cases, it has been extremely beneficial," he added.

Finally, Laporta addressed the Financial Fair Play issue, citing La Liga's decision to reduce their spending limit to a negative figure earlier this month. He also confirmed discussions with CVC, which could greatly assist the club in mitigating the crisis.

"We have all the levers we need to solve the club's economy." We are awaiting LaLiga's criteria, which can be quite stringent at times. This year's accounts may be closed, and as a result, I understand that we must be fair. " There are discussions with CVC, and the initial proposal is being revised. We are also collaborating with other structures. It must be signed by June 30th. We are making assessments and working on it with Barça Studios."
