'£43m is just not enough,' says Romano, adding that Chelsea will need to spend even more to sign a'special' midfielder

Chelsea may need to raise more funds to sign Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano revealed on his YouTube channel that the price for the Monaco midfielder has risen again in tandem with the growing interest in his signature.

Tchouameni rumor Tchouameni will be the subject of intense transfer speculation in the next window.

The 22-year-old is one of Europe's most sought-after talents, having established a stellar reputation in Ligue 1 and with the French national team.

His contract with Monaco does not expire until 2024, but the likelihood of him meeting that deadline remains high.

The majority of the continent's heavyweights are eyeing him, hoping to entice him with the prospect of Champions League football.

Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have been tipped as the two teams most likely to sign Tchouameni.

Manchester City are also reportedly prepared to fling the cash at Monaco for their star player.

Chelsea were undoubtedly in the running before the UK government sanctioned Roman Abramovich earlier this month, preventing any new signings from entering Stamford Bridge until a new owner is in place.

Could Kante be the spark?

If Abramovich's successor can be determined quickly – good joke – the Blues could purchase another Tchouameni raffle ticket.

They should, however, brace themselves for not only a bidding war, but one with potentially eye-popping figures.

"This boy is unique. The asking price of €50 million (£43 million) is no longer sufficient, according to Romano.

"They'll need more than this if they want to sign Tchouameni before the end of the season." But we'll see because it'll be one of the market's big names."

While Chelsea should have no trouble finding the funds to cover the cost once Abramovich is gone, they may want to consider another factor in their pursuit of Tchouameni.

He recently praised fellow Frenchman N'Golo Kante after the pair teamed up on the international stage.

"It's great to see N'Golo again" (in the France squad). He congratulated me on my achievement. we discussed it and we are very happy to have him,” Tchouameni said.
