Ronaldo's wacky 'triangle fringe' is expected to make a comeback at the World Cup.

At the 2002 World Cup, Brazil's Ronaldo surprised fans with his triangle haircut, and new study reveals the three-sided design may be about to make a dramatic comeback.

Ronaldo's famed "triangle fringe" haircut from Brazil could be making a comeback.

According to a survey, the frequency of Google searches for "iconic footballer hairstyles" has increased by 55% in the last year as fans try to imitate their heroes. Ronaldo's haircut, which he wore when Brazil won the 2002 World Cup and the Golden Boot in South Korea, was one of the top three searches.

Later, the famed striker apologized to mothers after children all across the world mimicked his "awful haircut." "I cut the hair," he explained. 'Do you like it?' I asked my teammates when I saw them. 'No, it's terrible!' they exclaimed. "Cut it off!" says the narrator.

However, Ronaldo did not get rid of his "terrible" hairstyle until after he won the World Cup, and billions of people around the world witnessed him accept the trophy while still sporting his "bad" hairstyle.

At the 2002 World Cup, Ronaldo rocked a genuinely distinctive hairdo.

Ronaldo ranked third on the list of most sought for hairstyles in the past 12 months, according to a study by hair restoration experts Aventus Clinic. David Beckham's iconic mohawk and Neymar's Batman haircut beat it out.

Phil Foden's blond "Gazza" look, Jack Grealish's long hair knotted in a headband, and Lionel Messi's bleached blond quiff were among the top ten.

Foden caused a commotion before last summer's European Championship when he dyed his hair in a tribute to Gazza, despite the fact that it wasn't intended to be.

"I'd had the same haircut for a long time and decided to try something new, and I woke up this morning with a lot of similarities to Gazza and Eminem," Foden explained at the time. It was my idea, and others have taken it and made it into something else.

Ronaldo sported a truly memorable hairstyle at the 2002 World Cup

Phil Foden had his hair colored blond in preparation for Euro 2020.

"I remember seeing footage of Gazza on TV, fantastic player," said the 21-year-old, who was born four years after England hosted the previous European Championships.
