President Akufo-Addo has acknowledged that the government's initial deadline for completing the hospitals under the Agenda 111 initiative was too ambitious.

The project, which began in August 2021 and was expected to be finished in 18 months, was commissioned in August 2021.

He noted that various unforeseen issues prompted delays in the construction processes while delivering the 2022 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Wednesday.

However, he stated that the majority of the preliminary work has been finished, with 87 projects currently under construction, and that they will be ready for commissioning by the end of his term. "I regret to inform you that, like with many major building projects, the initial timeframe we provided for the completion of Agenda 111 was clearly unduly ambitious. Identifying acceptable locations around the country, for example, has proven to be more difficult than anticipated.

"I am pleased to report that much of the preliminary work has been accomplished, and work has begun at 87 of the 111 sites." Preliminary work on the remaining 24 sites is proceeding, according to my sources. We are committed to taking this project through to a successful conclusion, allowing me to commission all 111 hospitals before I leave office on January 7, 2025," he said.
