Dr Aaron Ami-Narh, President of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, has charged church leaders in the country to lead the fight against corruption.
He claims that corruption has grown prevalent in a country where religious practitioners make up the bulk of the population and are expected to set the moral tone in society.
Dr Ami-Narh told JoyNews on the margins of the Church's second General Council meeting that the country's expected progress may never be realized if the current scenario continues.
"We say it, but I think we're joking about it; we're no longer surprised there's corruption, and it's even in the church." We need to seize the bull by the horns. "No matter what comes into this country, as long as the scourge of corruption persists, it will end up in the hands of a select few, and the country will remain impoverished." "The church has to lead the way," he said.
Meanwhile, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has stated that his office is committed to prosecuting wrongdoing and recovering assets.
His administration is supposed to be able to chronicle corruption and expose peddlers of the same with the release of a new corruption league table later this year.
"We are aware of numerous corruption rankings, scores, and polls that are being conducted. However, it all boils down to the type of the data acquired and how it is used.
In summary, we will be documenting corruption, measuring corruption, determining the breeding of corruption, naming and shaming corrupt peddlers, assessing the impact of anti-corruption initiatives, and taking curative and remedial measures to combat corruption through prosecutions and asset recovery and management.
"It's time to retool our reformation by prodding our public sector into real and concrete action against corruption and corrupt practices," he said, adding that "it's time to move beyond the composite annual ranking of countries on a corruption drop list to own our local narrative and fashion and retool Our reformation by prodding our public sector into real and concrete action against corruption and corrupt practices."
