Abdulai Mahama, a civil engineer, has contested the government's assertion that it has built 10,875 kilometers of road.
He claimed that President Akufo-declaration, Addo's made while reading the 2022 State of the Nation Address (SONA), could not be true.
The President stated at his SONA to Parliament on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, that his government has built the most kilometers of new road in the country's history.
"In the five years of my government, more roads have been built, renovated, and upgraded than in any other comparable period in Ghana's history," he says. In the last five years, 10,875 kilometers of new roads have been built."
This, he said, is a once-in-a-generation success in Ghana's infrastructure sector.
On Thursday, March 31, 2022, the Engineer responded to the President's claim on the Super Morning Show, pointing out that the President's assertion contradicts data provided by the Roads and Highways Minister during a press briefing in 2021, which indicated that 4,263.37 km of roads were built between 2017 and 2021.
He argued that, given the length of time required, the methodology for building a road, which included "going through a virgin forest and clearing the trees, stumps, farm products, and everything and building a new road from scratch," and other underlying factors such as challenges that may arise during the projects, it could not be justified.
